Armed
James Clar, Abdulnasser Gharem
Nov 4 - 7, 2010
Abu Dhabi Art, Booth - 18
Traffic looks forward to exhibiting the works of the American media artist James Clar, and the Saudi artist Abdulnasser Gharem, in a show entitled ‘Armed’ at the Abu Dhabi Art Fair at Emirates Palace. The works will serve as an engaging conversation between two contemporary artists from opposite sides of the world. James Clar's work is a fusion of technology, pop art and visual information; and often deals with nationalism, globalism and popular culture in the age of mass media. Abdulnasser Gharem is one of the most respected Saudi artists of his time. As both a conceptual artist and a Lieutenant Colonel in the Saudi Arabian army, Gharem uses performance, painting and sculpture to explore the themes of communication and administration. Both artists are confirmed for an artist talk on the 4th of November, while Clar's piece '1989' will be exhibited at Beyond, on the grounds of the Fair. Traffic, Gallery I

The inaugural exhibition in Gallery I will be a group show curated by Rami Farook, with works from The Farook Collection. This explosive show features works by a plethora of contemporary artists from the region and the world. Inspired by the post-9/11 world we live in, 'THE STATE' references both the political state as well as our current global condition. The show also sets the agenda for Traffic, pointing towards a focus on collective discourse as well as regional art patronage. Pieces by emerging artists such as Abbas Akhavan and Sara Rahbar, sit side-by-side with established names such as Allora & Calzadilla and Mona Hatoum. Their works explore diverse conceptual ideas and are presented in various media, but all come together to build a highly charged portrait of 'THE STATE'.

Hit Me With Your War Tune
Hesam Rahmanian
Nov 10 - Dec 30, 2010
Traffic, Gallery II

Hesam Rahmanian's paintings employ sensitivity and wit as they chart the turbulent ideas at play in his native country. As an artist born in and informed by Iran, Rahmanian's works often highlight his own relationship with the country. In 'Hit Me With Your War Tune' each of his expansive paintings acts as a window into a society that, following last year's events, has been discussed in much detail. His works add colour, both literally and figuratively, to the global understanding of a country that is caught in the midst of various conflicting ideas.
