Designer’s Profile: A truly significant contemporary architect, Zaha Hadid and her work is renowned the world over. Best known for seminal projects such as the Vitra Fire Station, Land Formation-One, Bergisel Ski Jump and the Rosenthal Centre for Contemporary Art in Cincinnati. Hadid has contributed in no small measure to the architectural revolutions of recent times. Defying convention and employing a personal vision to her art, Hadid is a remarkable architect whose work was rewarded last year with the highest architectural accolade, the Pritzker Architecture Prize (Hadid is the first female architect to be awarded the prize.) Fragmented geometry and bold fluid forms characterize Hadid’s remarkable work.

The recently completed building for BMW in Leipzig is another landmark project and (currently very much in international demand) Hadid is at present working on a National Centre of Contemporary Arts in Rome, a masterplan for Bilboa, an Opera House in Guangzhou, China and a new centre for the Architectural foundation. Hadid is famously concerned with all aspects of her art: Practice, teaching, theory and research are all equally necessary to her work.
