The Fold family consists of one large floor lamp and two smaller table versions.
The design derives its name from its construction process: an aluminum sheet is subjected to multiple folding in order to create the traditional motif of the product. The reference to the tradition of lighting design is evident in the silhouetted form of the Fold lights and in the application of a braided fabric cable.
Alexander Taylor’s subtle references to the traditions of lighting design become all the more potent when it is revealed that the Fold lamp is heavily reliant upon the newest technology and manufacturing techniques for its construction. ‘I like work containing honesty with regards to construction process and thought. I think the product should tell its own story and once your thoughts have to be explained then something within the design is not working,’ says Alexander Taylor.
