The distinctive skid leg of this chair was created in response to the observation that many chairs, particularly dining chairs, are first viewed from the rear. BarberOsgerby chose to use an enclosed volume; a fluid form rather than a more usual leg type. This was adopted as a clear contrast to the hard lines of the De La Warr Pavilion’s interior for which the chair was originally commissioned.
As the DLVP Chair was intended for use throughout the newly renovated De La Warr Pavilion at Bexhill-On-Sea, it was only fitting that it’s design reflected the stunning modernist structure in which it was to be housed. Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby felt that the rectilinear volumes and steel structure of the building dictated a sculptural solution.
The cast aluminum or powder-coated finish with the addition of a wool or leather upholstered seat. The production of the DLWP Chair is intended for use as both a restaurant dining chair and as an outdoor terrace chair.
