Interior design of a concept store; Katrin Greiling, Dubai: ‘Cabin’
Katrin Greiling is an interior designer and architect who grew up in Munich, Germany, but now lives in Dubai. Katrin is regarded by many as one of the most promising young designers, furthered by this latest prestigious win at the Middle East’s design competition. Katrin’s design for the retail space; ‘Cabin’ came through her desire to create an environment using the theme of ‘inside-outside’ – by merging the interior and exterior spaces and creating storage that is still interesting. I created a flexible and chaotic environment – i.e. the flexible shelf which was inspired by the forest and the transparency of the design allows people to pass the space and look inside, encouraging people to enter. “Winning this category feels great – as this was the category that I most wanted to win,” explains Greiling. “It was a great opportunity to get the chance to work on such a retail space with such tremendous scope and to be able to work with traffic. From here, our collaboration will be very exciting and there is the opportunity to grow further: this is just the first step. I feel very honoured to get an opportunity like this.”
